Rajin Business Institute (RBI),

Rason Economic and Trade Zone(RETZ), DPRK

The Rajin-Sonbong Economic and Trade Zone Investment Discussions took place in September 1998. The Discussions were organized by the DPRK government with assistance from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and UNDP.  The 1998 Investment Discussions built on an investment forum held in the Rajin-Sonbong Economic and Trade Zone in 1996.

Another element of investment promotion support for the Rajin-Sonbong Economic and Trade Zone has been publication of an investment and business guide and a collection of laws and regulations relating to foreign investment in the Zone, printed in 1998 and 1999, respectively.

You can find the DPRK laws and regulations related to foreign investment, taxes, customs, foreign exchange control, leasing of land, insurance, external economic arbitration, wholly foreign-owned enterprises, joint venture enterprises, labor and employment etc. Please visit the following website for Foreign Investment Law:

The majority of the investment promotion support for the Rajin-Sonbong Economic and Trade Zone was provided to set up the Rajin Business Institute(RBI) and Business Information Centre(BIC), and related human resource development.

The nature of work in the world is changing rapidly. The interplay of global market competition, changing demographic, and increased use of technology make it necessary for DPRK to re-think, re-define, re-tool, and re-invest in education and the world of work.  In order to compete in the new international market, the DPRK must upgrade the basic skills would contribute to an enhanced workplace. A more educated workforce would have positive effects on the position of DPRK in the global market and on increased profit margins for local business.  In addition, work-places would be more equitable and competitive for workers.

It is for this reason that Chayon Kim & Associates (formerly Team international) is to invest in Rajin Business Institute with UNDP and UNIDO.

Development and Implementation of Training Activities for the Rajin Economic and Trade Zone is to establish Rajin Business Institute (RBI).
